Pink Five News

From the official production blog of Pink Five:

"But the top story this week is that Allegiance, the new Star Wars novel by Timothy Zahn, goes on sale tomorrow.
Way, way back at Celebration III, longtime friend-of-Pink-Five John Hudgens introduced me to Timothy Zahn, because John knew that Timothy was a Pink Five fan.
Which made a kind of sense... EU writers do the same thing fanfilm makers do, after all - we poke around the edges of the established SW universe, hunting for stories that haven't been told before.
It turned out Zahn was indeed a Pink Five fan, and during our conversation he said (in a mock-conspiratorial whisper) "I'm going to put Stacey into my next novel, if I can get away with it."

Timothy Zahn has been a fan to Star Wars fans for quite some time, even making the 501st Stormtrooper Garrison (fan community that dons the armor and cloaks of SW villains for charity) Canon by including them in his novels Survivor's Quest and Fool's Bargain.

In late Pink Five news, it seems that the first 3 and a half minutes of Return of Pink 5, Vol 2 is available on YouTube.

Relight Firefly

<img src="http://www.requiemoftheoutcast.com/planetfandom/firefly.jpg" width="130" height="80" / align="left">On January 2nd, which is when the letters will probably arrive, please send e-mails to feedback@scifi.com as well. As in all our campaigns to get noticed and get something done, it's all about Numbers. So let's drown 'em in letters and e-mails on Jan 2nd!
Here is a sample e-mail. It should serve as a fairly good template for Letters and e-mails both.

Subject: Programming Suggestion for Summer, 2007

To the Sci/Fi Programming Staff:

Firefly is one of your more popular shows; Check the Numbers from the last few "Marathons" you've had of it, and I'm sure you'll agree. It's also in the Interests of NBC/Universal that it BE a popular Show. The Film Serenity is doing well in DVD sales, and Firefly's popularity certainly ties into that.

So... Here's a Unique Proposal:
Firefly as a Summer Replacement Series

There are 14 Episodes, if you count the Pilot as One Episode. Show the Series in it's proper order, the way Joss Whedon originally intended them to be. Each Episode could be Introduced by one of the Show's Cast, and possibly Joss for the Pilot Episode. The "Host" can intro an Episode, and provide a tidbit of commentary or trivia at the end of each Installment.

Show one per week, on the same designated night, just like a regular Television Series. The Production costs will be extremely low, compared to the cost of a New Series. It'll take all Summer and Folks can Tune in, Same Time, Same Channel each week. It would Introduce an entirely New Audience to Firefly, and satisfy Current Fans as well.

This could generate enough renewed interest in Firefly to bring about interest in a Serenity Sequel, or perhaps a Serenity-based Mini-Series. Also, if Sci/Fi is in line for the non-paying Cable Premiere of Serenity, this would be the PERFECT Tie-in!

I hope you all give this some serious consideration. It could certainly work, to the benefit of all concerned.

Sincerely,
YOUR NAME

We want to be taken seriously, so please do Not send Overly decorated or "Fanboy" type letters. Keep it simple and to the point. Show them we're sincere and serious, and it'll improve the chances that they'll take us seriously.
Thank you to everyone who decides to do this. It's a simple, practical way to keep Firefly alive and Flying. Hopefully, we can get Sci/Fi to at least consider it!

A very special thank you to Timothy Dale Brown for all his hard work in spearheading this movement.

2007 Star Wars Fanworks Fan Audio Award Voting Has Begun

<img alt="starwarsfanworks.jpg" src="http://www.requiemoftheoutcast.com/planetfandom/starwarsfanworks.jpg" width="130" height="97" / align="left">
(source: starwarsfanworks.com)

Ladies and gentlemen, start your voting!

As in previous years, Star Wars Fanworks is holding its annual Star Wars Fan Audio Awards to recognize outstanding work in the genre in the most recent broadcast year. This year, of course, voting is being carried out to acknowledge projects released during 2006.

Categories have been slightly narrowed down since last year's awards, but voting is being carried out in a similar fashion. Those wishing to participate can do so in two ways, but must meet one of two qualifications.

Qualifications: As previously determined during discussions with the community and the approval thereof, anyone voting in the 2007 awards must either be (a) a registered member of GalacticSenate.com since no later than December 1, 2006, or (b) a member of the Star Wars fan audio creative community (someone who has been an active participant in the genre, either by being a creator, host, mixer, voice actor, or other "creative talent").

Voting Methods: Those wishing to vote should head to the Star Wars Fanworks message board over at GalacticSenate.com (using the link on the top right column of the Fanworks main page). There, you will find a thread at the top of the board that includes a few notes on rules/procedures and complete lists of all of the eligible nominees for each award category. Voters can then place their votes by either (a) sending a Private Message to forum member "Nathan Butler" (the starter of the voting thread) or (b) sending an email to "nathan@starwarsfanworks.com" so that Fanworks can tally your votes.

Winners will be announced in a special episode of Star Wars and Beyond a few weeks after voting ends on January 14.

So, what are you waiting for? Go show your support for the genre and your favorites in the 2007 Star Wars Fanworks Fan Audio Awards.

Virtual Firefly Celebrates Its 1 yr Anniversary

<img src="http://www.requiemoftheoutcast.com/planetfandom/stillflying.jpg" width="130" height="54" / align="left">(source: stillflying.net date: 12/27/06)
Greetings, folks! Today is a very special day for the crew over at www.stillflying.net. Our newest episode, “Confluence,” airs today (head on over to the site and read it!), but this is also the one year anniversary of our first episode.
Yep, we’ve been flying hard for a year. With 21 episodes under our collective belts, we’ve now got more than a THOUSAND pages of Firefly script to share with y’all! We hope that those of you who haven’t been along for the ride will stop by and pay a visit.
For those of you who are not familiar with our project, Still Flying is a fan-based site dedicated to a "virtual continuation" of Joss Whedon's "Firefly" in the form of scripts of additional episodes. We've rounded out Season One, completing it with seven new episodes (including a season finale based on "Serenity: Those Left Behind" from Dark Horse Comics).
Season Two is dedicated to exploring the question, "What would things have been like if Joss Whedon had been able to tell the story of Serenity in 22 episodes rather than 2 hours?" Our story will take you to most of the same places the movie does, but the path along the way will be a little different, and a lot longer. With 14 of Season Two’s 22 episodes behind us, we’ve seen some old friends and more than a few old enemies. We can't promise that we'll entertain you as much as Mister Whedon would have, but you should know that this project has been put together by those who care about the show, and we're taking this bird up out of love.
"Here's how it might have been..."

Firefly Ambulance and Scripts

But the best description of their labor is presented on their website:
"Like most Browncoats, we know that Whedon will return to us with another movie, book, or some other way to continue the tale he started in "Firefly." Until that time, we'll be here. Air Hollywood sold it to Mark Thompson's Aviation Warehouse. Carey Meyer, production designer for Firefly, rented the ambulance; the Firefly crew modified and repainted it to be the Ariel Ambulance. After the episode Ariel was filmed, the ambulance was returned to the Aviation Warehouse, which later sold it to the El Dorado Aircraft Supply Co. ltd. which kept it in their scrapyard in Mojave, CA where Akin happened upon it. The Ariel Ambulance Rescue Group purchased it from the El Dorado Aircraft Supply Co. on Saturday May 6, 2006 (dubbed "Ariel ambulance Day").

What are they doing with it?
They're taking her on tour! Visit their site, www.arielambulance.org and see their pics and follow their progress.

In any case, this is a short and sweet episode, just under an hour, so that when Bryan and I can get together again for recording, we're not bogged down with a lot of extra material that I'd like to get out to everyone. So, I hope you enjoyed this episode and we'll talk to you again soon, either in Episode XIX or in our first movie commentary which will be Superman: The Movie.

Star Trek Aurora

The USS Aurora is ready to leave dock!

This ambitious fanfilm series is one of the first of its kind. It's a four part series done completely in CG. The Aurora takes to the stars between the original series and the Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The story revolves around a group of merchanteers, just trying to make their way in the universe. To quote the creator:

...the many civilians that Kirk's Enterprise encountered in the original series: as a kid, I would see these jumpsuit-clad people on this planet or that station and wonder more about their stories. It seemed to me that you'd have to be almost as courageous as the Enterprise crew to leave Earth behind and put yourself out there in that very same unpredicable and sometimes hostile galaxy–but without a heavily armed starship at your disposal!

There is no set release date for the next chapters since they will be released as completed, and the unique CG format is no easy process. We'll try to keep you posted as more information comes along.

Done the Impossible

A fantastic Documentary made by the ones that love, has been released:
From their website DoneTheImpossible.com:

The story of the rise and fall and rebirth of the cult TV show "Firefly," as told from the perspective of the fans who helped save it.
The creators of FireflyMovie.com (a.k.a. SerenityMovie.net) have teamed with with a group of creative professionals / Firefly fans to tell our story, the fan's story - the story of the Browncoats.
Firefly has grown beyond just the genius of Joss Whedon -- just as he intended it to. In many ways the words Firefly and Browncoat have come to symbolize a sense of community, family, and believing that the impossible can be accomplished. These concepts are at the very heart of Firefly and of its fans.
In this documentary, the fans explain what inspired them to become passionate about Firefly, to help save Firefly, attend shindigs, participate in message boards, donate to charities, and become Serenity extras. They talk about the many ways that Firefly has affected their lives. Cast and crew also share humorous and insightful experiences with the fans.

This amazing documentary is hosted by Adam Baldwin (Jayne Cobb), and features interviews and anicdotes from cast and crew of both Firefly and Serenity. There are two versions available. You can buy the DVD, with all proceeds going to Equality Now, or you can download a free version, sans extras. I am a huge fan of free content, but this DVD demands to sit on my shelf.

Star Wars Simultaneously

You've seen the Star Wars movies, right? Of course you have. Everyone has. But have you seen two of them at the same time? Ok, I have compared the differences of the DVD copy to the origianl VHS, but that day the cable was out. Here's another question for you. Have you seen all six Star Wars movies..... at the same time? Now you can. Although not how you're thinking. Jacob Kafka at weirdhat.com has created the ultimate remix. Star Wars Simultaneously. And yes, that title is accurate. You can now watch all six Star Wars movies at the same time. On top of each other. As silly as that sounds, you will be surprised at how similar the films can be at certain places. I don't know about you guys, but I'm going to try some other great series at the same time. I wonder how Raimi's Evil Dead series will run?
