Relight Firefly

On January 2nd, which is when the letters will probably arrive, please send e-mails to feedback@scifi.com as well. As in all our campaigns to get noticed and get something done, it's all about Numbers. So let's drown 'em in letters and e-mails on Jan 2nd!
Here is a sample e-mail. It should serve as a fairly good template for Letters and e-mails both.

Subject: Programming Suggestion for Summer, 2007

To the Sci/Fi Programming Staff:

Firefly is one of your more popular shows; Check the Numbers from the last few "Marathons" you've had of it, and I'm sure you'll agree. It's also in the Interests of NBC/Universal that it BE a popular Show. The Film Serenity is doing well in DVD sales, and Firefly's popularity certainly ties into that.

So... Here's a Unique Proposal:
Firefly as a Summer Replacement Series

There are 14 Episodes, if you count the Pilot as One Episode. Show the Series in it's proper order, the way Joss Whedon originally intended them to be. Each Episode could be Introduced by one of the Show's Cast, and possibly Joss for the Pilot Episode. The "Host" can intro an Episode, and provide a tidbit of commentary or trivia at the end of each Installment.

Show one per week, on the same designated night, just like a regular Television Series. The Production costs will be extremely low, compared to the cost of a New Series. It'll take all Summer and Folks can Tune in, Same Time, Same Channel each week. It would Introduce an entirely New Audience to Firefly, and satisfy Current Fans as well.

This could generate enough renewed interest in Firefly to bring about interest in a Serenity Sequel, or perhaps a Serenity-based Mini-Series. Also, if Sci/Fi is in line for the non-paying Cable Premiere of Serenity, this would be the PERFECT Tie-in!

I hope you all give this some serious consideration. It could certainly work, to the benefit of all concerned.

Sincerely,
YOUR NAME

We want to be taken seriously, so please do Not send Overly decorated or "Fanboy" type letters. Keep it simple and to the point. Show them we're sincere and serious, and it'll improve the chances that they'll take us seriously.
Thank you to everyone who decides to do this. It's a simple, practical way to keep Firefly alive and Flying. Hopefully, we can get Sci/Fi to at least consider it!

A very special thank you to Timothy Dale Brown for all his hard work in spearheading this movement.

Virtual Firefly Celebrates Its 1 yr Anniversary

(source: stillflying.net date: 12/27/06)
Greetings, folks! Today is a very special day for the crew over at www.stillflying.net. Our newest episode, “Confluence,” airs today (head on over to the site and read it!), but this is also the one year anniversary of our first episode.
Yep, we’ve been flying hard for a year. With 21 episodes under our collective belts, we’ve now got more than a THOUSAND pages of Firefly script to share with y’all! We hope that those of you who haven’t been along for the ride will stop by and pay a visit.
For those of you who are not familiar with our project, Still Flying is a fan-based site dedicated to a "virtual continuation" of Joss Whedon's "Firefly" in the form of scripts of additional episodes. We've rounded out Season One, completing it with seven new episodes (including a season finale based on "Serenity: Those Left Behind" from Dark Horse Comics).
Season Two is dedicated to exploring the question, "What would things have been like if Joss Whedon had been able to tell the story of Serenity in 22 episodes rather than 2 hours?" Our story will take you to most of the same places the movie does, but the path along the way will be a little different, and a lot longer. With 14 of Season Two’s 22 episodes behind us, we’ve seen some old friends and more than a few old enemies. We can't promise that we'll entertain you as much as Mister Whedon would have, but you should know that this project has been put together by those who care about the show, and we're taking this bird up out of love.
"Here's how it might have been..."

Firefly Ambulance and Scripts

Hey fellow fandom freaks!  It's Rich here, and I have a Big Firefly/Serenity Update:

Virtual Firefly is a crew of fans that have gotten together to show us what might have happened if Fox hadn't been so gorram near-sighted.

They present for us a collection of fan written scripts, lovingly put together, detailing the continued adventures of our favorite Big Damn Heros, as if the show had never ended.  Each episode is presented in pdf form, so anyone can read it.  Season 1 has 19 episodes, and are currently 9 episodes into season 2.

But the best description of their labor is presented on their website:
"Like most Browncoats, we know that Whedon will return to us with another movie, book, or some other way to continue the tale he started in "Firefly." Until that time, we'll be here. We will hold the line.
We can't show you exactly how Joss Whedon would've done it, but we can tell you...
"Here's how it might have been..."

arieal-ambulance.gifWhat would you do if you stumbled across a prop from your favorite TV show?
Try to buy it and restore it?  Well that's what Akin did.

What is the Ariel Ambulance?
This is the flying ambulance that Wash found in the dump, fixed up in the belly of Serenity, flew to the hospital with "dead" Simon and River, etc. in the episode "Ariel."

How did it get there?
The ambulance began as a mockup of a Puma owned by Air Hollywood; it was modified to look like an Mi-24 Hind and used in Hunt for Red October. Air Hollywood sold it to Mark Thompson's Aviation Warehouse. Carey Meyer, production designer for Firefly, rented the ambulance; the Firefly crew modified and repainted it to be the Ariel Ambulance. After the episode Ariel was filmed, the ambulance was returned to the Aviation Warehouse, which later sold it to the El Dorado Aircraft Supply Co. ltd. which kept it in their scrapyard in Mojave, CA where Akin happened upon it. The Ariel Ambulance Rescue Group purchased it from the El Dorado Aircraft Supply Co. on Saturday May 6, 2006 (dubbed "Ariel ambulance Day").

What are they doing with it?
They're taking her on tour!  Visit their site, www.arielambulance.org and see their pics and follow their progress.

In the next week or so, I'll be doing a rundown of all the available Firefly/Serenity Podcasts that are online.

Done the Impossible

done-the-impossible.gif

A fantastic Documentary made by the ones that love, has been released: From their website DoneTheImpossible.com:
The story of the rise and fall and rebirth of the cult TV show "Firefly," as told from the perspective of the fans who helped save it. The creators of FireflyMovie.com (a.k.a. SerenityMovie.net) have teamed with with a group of creative professionals / Firefly fans to tell our story, the fan's story - the story of the Browncoats. Firefly has grown beyond just the genius of Joss Whedon -- just as he intended it to. In many ways the words Firefly and Browncoat have come to symbolize a sense of community, family, and believing that the impossible can be accomplished. These concepts are at the very heart of Firefly and of its fans. In this documentary, the fans explain what inspired them to become passionate about Firefly, to help save Firefly, attend shindigs, participate in message boards, donate to charities, and become Serenity extras. They talk about the many ways that Firefly has affected their lives. Cast and crew also share humorous and insightful experiences with the fans.
This amazing documentary is hosted by Adam Baldwin (Jayne Cobb), and features interviews and anicdotes from cast and crew of both Firefly and Serenity. There are two versions available. You can buy the DVD, with all proceeds going to Equality Now, or you can download a free version, sans extras. I am a huge fan of free content, but this DVD demands to sit on my shelf.
